I do not believe ambition is a dirty word.

I am energized by helping capable leaders live fully in their God-assigned purpose.

In fact, I believe that when God gives us a vision, it is inherently ambitious. Think about it. God is majestic, all-knowing and unlimited in power. Why would we expect the work God calls us to accomplish to be limited by what we can do on our own?

I happen to believe God's vision requires more than our abilities, resources or experience can accomplish.

The problem is not ambition itself. The problem begins when our ambition is not aligned with God's will.

But even when our ambition is aligned with God's purpose, we are rarely called to accomplish that vision alone.

We need people who understand what we are trying to accomplish, believe in our ability to lead and are willing to get behind us.

That is where personal branding becomes so important.

For nearly 30 years, I have advised executives, public figures and institutional leaders through defining moments in their careers and organizations. I have helped them communicate with authority, navigate difficult situations, strengthen their reputations and earn the confidence of the people they need behind them.

I Know What It Feels Like to Be Overlooked

Throughout my career, I have secured media coverage for major national brands on morning television shows, national evening newscasts, in leading newspapers and through nationally syndicated stories. I also have worked with top consumer brands and helped bring their stories to audiences across the country.

I had the experience, the relationships and the results.

However, I found myself working with colleagues who treated me as though I were fresh out of college, despite having accomplished things many professionals spend their entire careers working toward.

I had the experience and results. Yet, I was still being underestimated.

I also watched peers in my industry receive recognition for work I had been doing for years.

But I had to acknowledge my own part in this. I nominated others for industry awards but never myself. I built relationships and advocated for the leaders I served but rarely made the same investment in my own career.

And when family and friends were still asking, "What is it that you do again?" well into my career, I could no longer ignore the obvious.

I had a personal branding problem.

It Was Time to Take My Own Advice

I spent much of my career behind the scenes, helping leaders communicate their vision, earn recognition and strengthen their reputations.

I loved that work. I still do!

But while helping others shine, I had allowed my own light to dim.

I was so immersed in advancing other organizations that I had neglected my own personal brand.

Now I am changing that.

I am applying the same expertise and strategic approach I have used for nearly three decades to my own brand.

Through my podcast, thought leadership and a more intentional public presence, I am making sure my brand reflects the experience and value I bring to the table.

Your personal brand should make it clear who you are, what you have accomplished and why people should trust you to lead.

A beautiful headshot and polished website have their place. But without credibility, a clear message and a reputation that supports your leadership, they are just decoration.

A strong personal brand is not about creating an image. It is about revealing the leader who already exists and the potential for even greater impact.

not because it is impossible, but because of stalled progress.

I have seen how frustration, disappointment and self-doubt can cause even experienced leaders to question whether they can accomplish what they set out to do.

And I know the impact extends beyond one person.
